Police Officer Honored Following Jamaica Plain Firearm Arrest

Boston police officer Carlos Martinez was awarded the “Commissioner’s Commendation” after he recently chased down a man who fired shots from a moving vehicle in Jamaica Plain.
On Saturday, Sept. 19, Officer Martinez observed a male suspect firing a gun from a car he was operating in the area of Bragdon and Ernst Streets. The suspect then fled the scene at a high rate of speed.

Officer Martinez tailed the suspect and made a stop following a lengthy pursuit. Martinez, with the help of additional units, arrested the suspect at the intersection of Elm Hill and Blue Hill Avenue.
In receiving the Commissioner’s Commendation, Martinez was recognized for dedication to his area of patrol, keene observations and immediate response.

The suspect, Jason Bly, of Roxbury, was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling, armed career criminal, failure to submit to a police officer, driving to endanger, speeding and operating a motor vehicle after evocation or suspension.
