Mayor Martin J. Walsh’s administration required the Big Apple Circus, which owes Boston $100,000, to start making payments before the circus starts its seven-week run of City Hall Plaza shows on Tuesday, March 24.

The bill, which is overdue rent and money for city personnel such as EMTs and firefighters, is going to be recouped by Boston with a payment plan. The circus made an initial payment of $20,000, which is enough to cover the fee for a three month rental of the plaza. The circus crews started setting up this week.
