27 Middlesex Jail Inmates Tested Negative After Positive Case
One unit in the jail was quarantined after an inmate tested positive for COVID-19 but 27 inmates have since tested negative.
A unit in the Middlesex County Jail that had been under quarantine just had 27 inmates test negative for COVID-19. A positive case in the unit prompted the initial quarantine.
Seventeen of the 27 inmates had been retested on the advice of the jail's infectious disease physician following a previous positive test in one housing unit last week. All 17 inmates tested negative twice and the unit’s quarantine will be lifted.
Of the remaining 10 tests, only one was for a symptomatic person.

“As the Commonwealth continues its phased reopening, we recognize there is an increased risk of COVID entering our facility. We are not a fortress on a hill, but rather a part of the community and we must all remain vigilant,” said Middlesex Sheriff Peter J. Koutoujian. “The health, wellness and safety of all those who work at, live in and visit the Middlesex Jail & House of Correction are – and will continue to be – our top priorities.”
