Dispose of Hazardous Products on Sunday

Monthly from April through November, the Minuteman Hazardous Products Regional Facility, located at the Lexington Compost Facility, 60 Hartwell Ave., accepts hazardous-waste products for disposal.

This month's drop-off day is Sunday, Sept. 19, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Identification and proof of residency is required, and residents are asked to make one trip only. 

The event is free for residents of Lexington, Arlington, Bedford, Belmont, Chelmsford, Lincoln, Waltham and Watertown. Some towns require pre-registration. Concord residents who participate in the town's curbside trash pickup will not be charged, however pre-registration is required. 

Fees for residents in other towns are $35 for up to 12 gallons of materials, and $60 for 12 to 25 gallons. An extra fee is charged to those dropping off more than 25 gallons. 

The facility accepts general household materials such as acids, aerosol cans, art supplies, batteries, chemistry set chemicals, fiberglass resins, furniture polishes, hobby supplies, devices containing mercery, moth balls, oil paints, paint thinners, photography chemicals, rug cleaners, solvent adhesives, turpentine and wood preservatives.

Bathroom products (hair dye, nail polish remover and toilet cleaners), laundry materials (brighteners, chlorine bleach, spot removers, spray starch and whiteners), kitchen materials (drain cleaners, lighter fluids and oven cleaners) are also accepted. 

Automotive materials are also accepted, such as antifreeze, batteries, brake fluid, carburetor cleaner, used oil, tire cleaners, radiator flush, solvents, degreasers, transmission fluids and waste fuels. 

Lawn and garden materials may also be dropped off, including fire starters, fungicides, herbicides, insecticides, pesticides, poisons, pool chemicals, propane tanks, cesspool cleaners flammable liquids and flea and tick powders.
