Fire incidents
A small brush fire was reported on Grove Street at Dewey Road, Sunday, Aug. 8 at 9:10 p.m. A fire was located under the power lines and extinguished and wet down with two tanks of water. On Monday at 10:28 a.m., firefighters returned to wet down hot spots in the brush. Firefighters also returned at 5:47 p.m. to wet down the area after it rekindled, using 5,000 gallons of water and 20 gallons of foam.
On Sunday, Aug. 8 at 7:37 a.m., a transformer explosion occurred on Reed Street. NStar was notified. Firefighters found no ground or public safety hazards. A dead animal was found up the street.
A small brush fire was reported Sunday, Aug. 8 at 3:11 p.m. near the ramp to I-95 north. The cause of the fire is unknown. People appear to be living in this location. Firefighters used about 400 gallons of water with foam to extinguish the fire.
A Goodwin Road resident requested assistance with a bat in their house Saturday, Aug. 7 at 9:11 p.m. Firefighters assisted, and the bat left the house.
Also on Saturday, an odor of smoke in a building on Main Campus Drive was reported. Firefighters arrived and noticed a slight odor of burning. A singed towel was found hanging on a light fixture.
A fire was reported in the basement of a Marrett Road home on Friday, Aug. 6 at 10:27 p.m. Firefighters found light smoke in the basement, and a fire inside a shower unit in the basement. The resident reported using the shower, then going to bed, and the fire was discovered by a family member. Firefighters shut off the circuit breaker and put the fire out with a bucket of water. No extension of the fire was found, and the fire appears to have started in the control box of the shower unit.
A Dumpster fire was reported Tuesday, Aug. 3 at 7:33 p.m. on Paul Revere Road. The Dumpster was being used for construction of a building at the rear of the property. The fire was extinguished by 7:54 p.m.
