Fire Incidents

A car fire was reported on Tuesday, Dec. 7 at 7:27 a.m. on Lowell Street. Firefighters arrived to find heavy fire at the front of the car, and used 400 gallons of water with foam to put it out. Burlington firefighters assisted. The owner said she started the car to warm it up, and returned to find flames coming from under the hood. She said she had just had her car serviced.

A chimney fire was reported on Wednesday, Dec. 8 at 9:21 a.m. on Barberry Road. Firefighters arrived to find a moderate amount of smoke coming from the chimney. Logs were burning in the fireplace, and there was light smoke in the home. The logs were removed, and a thermal-imaging camera was used to check for extension of the fire. A crew used a ladder to check the chimney cap. No fire or smoke was found in the chimney, and the flue was clear, with the exception of creosote in the chimney lining. The residents were advised not to use the fireplace until cleaned by a professional.

Dept. of Public Works workers reported a possible brush fire on Hartwell Avenue Dec. 8 at 10:03 a.m. Firefighters found a half-acre area burning, and used hose and brooms to extinguish the fire.

A person was reported stuck in an elevator on Pelham Road on Friday, Dec. 10 at 11:32 p.m. The elevator stopped six inches from a floor. Firefighters used a screw driver on the locking system to open the door. No damage was done. The residents were advised not to use the elevator until serviced.

A carbon monoxide alarm sounded on White Pine Lane Saturday, Dec. 11 at 2:25 a.m. Firefighters took readings, and detected 20- to 30-parts-per-million of carbon monoxide. A wood-burning stove likely created the problem, and firefighters vented the home and took more readings. The residents reported no symptoms or complaints, and were advised to discontinue use of the stove until serviced. Readings showed zero ppm before firefighters left.

A gas leak was reported at Waxy O'Connors on Hartwell Avenue on Sunday, Dec. 10 at 7:40 p.m. A low reading of gas was found, and the stove was shut off and rooms ventilated. A burner on the second floor was found to be on but not lit. Readings showed zero before firefighters left.
