Fire incidents

Thursday, July 29, there was a brush fire around 6:45 a.m. at the Lexington Compost Facility on Hartwell Avenue. No buildings were near the fire. Later that day, around 12:02 p.m., a tractor trailer rolled over near the compost facility. The driver was not trapped or injured, and was able to get out of the truck. Firefighters put sand over minor leakage from the truck, and applied absorbent pads. The truck was righted without incident.

Also on July 29, at 11:06 p.m., a brush fire was reported on Lincoln Street. Firefighters attempted to gain access to the fire, covering about an acre of land, from Cranberry Hill. The fire was put out by midnight.

On July 30, a tractor trailer leaking an unknown fluid was reported on Marrett Road at 8:12 a.m. The spill was contained to the roadway, and firefighters put down drain covers and drying materials. The spill may have been Anti-freeze from an accident the previous day. It was cleaned by 9:32 a.m.

Also on July 30, a water heater leak in a Muzzey High Condominium on Mass Avenue caused damage to the Lexington Senior Center located on the two floors below. Firefighters gained access to two apartments surrounding the leak through the exterior windows, as the residents were not home. The water heater was shut off. It was found that in both apartments that the void areas with the water heaters were being used for storage, with one being used as an office. That resident will be notified not to use the area as occupied space.

At 2:22 on July 30, a sprinkler in the auditorium at Lexington High School malfunctioned, and firefighters shut the system down.

On Saturday, July 31 at 9:35 p.m., a resident of Sanderson Road reported smelling smoke outside. Firefighters checked the area of Sanderson and Bryant roads and Emerson Gardens, and found an outside wood grill being used. Maple Street was also checked, and one resident was using citronella candles. No major hazard was found.

Sunday, Aug. 1, a smoke scare also occurred on Barberry Road, where a resident reported a burning odor in the area. Firefighters checked the area and could not find a source. They believe the smell was blowing over from Waltham.
