Nothing appeared to be hot or burning. Later that afternoon, at 2:54 p.m., firefighters found an exterior transformer was smoking, with leaves burning around it and scorch marks present. Occasional smoke was emitting from the base of the unit, and temperature readings of more than 200 degrees were noted at the base. NStar was requested to cut the power to the building and transformer.
