Lexington Awarded $30K Grant For Maple Street Walking Route

The funds will help improve the walking route across Maple Street to Harrington Elementary School.

LEXINGTON, MA — Lexington was awarded $30,200 for roadway improvements from the Massachusetts Department of Transportation's Shared Streets & Spaces program. The grant was announced on Friday — Lexington is one of 17 municipalities to receive funding this round.

The money will be used make a well-used walking route across Maple Street to Harrington Elementary School better and safer by adjusting the curb ramp to be ADA-compliant, installing a flashing safety beacon, and installing new signage. In addition to getting students safely across Maple Street, the improvements will provide individuals and families safe access to nearby fields, playground, and trails.

The Shared Streets & Spaces program was launched on June 10 and provides technical and funding assistance to help Massachusetts cities and towns conceive, design, and implement tactical changes to curbs, streets, on-street parking spaces and off-street parking lots in support of public health, safe mobility, and renewed commerce.
