Lexington Unemployment Rate Dips, Beats State Average
After lackluster summer, will this uplifting trend continue?

The local August unemployment reports are out, and it seems Lexington is rebounding from a recent slight slump.
According to the Massachusetts Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development, the unadjusted unemployment rate in Lexington was 4.8 percent in August, down from 4.9 percent in July. The rate is still higher than it was in August, 2012 when it was at 4.6 percent.
Today, Lexington is faring better than the state.
Statewide, 7,500 jobs were added and the unemployment was 6.8 percent in August, down from 7.2 percent in July. But it was up by .1 percent since August 2012.
Big job gains statewide were seen in Education and Health Services, which added 4,100 jobs in August and 16,300 jobs since August 2012. The construction industry added 900 jobs in August 4,700 jobs. Information technology added 700 in August and 3,100 jobs since August 2012.
