Minuteman High School To Use Hybrid Model

The Minuteman School Committee unanimously voted to approve the hybrid model for the school's reopening.

LEXINGTON, MA — Minuteman High School students will be back in the classroom this school year... sort of. The School Committee unanimously voted last week to approve the hybrid reopening model for the fall.

All districts in the state were required to put together three possible models of learning for the fall — a completely remote model, a completely in-person model and a hybrid of the two. Under the hybrid model, students will split their time between remote and in-person learning.

The school conducted a survey of Minuteman parents, which garnered more than 500 responses as of Aug. 11, 92 percent supported a hybrid model.

Along with the approval of the hybrid model, new guidelines issued this month by state education officials has moved the first day of school for Minuteman has been changed to Sept. 16. Only grade 12 students will begin school in-person on Sept. 16. Students in grades 9, 10, and 11, will begin school that day remotely.

The plan is to have the grades rotate for in-person learning each week for their vocational programs — that will give each grade one week per month of career vocational education.
