Here's a quick look at what you need to know for the week ahead in Lexington.

Welcome to Monday Essentials! Here you'll find a snapshot of a few things you'll want to keep in mind for the week ahead. If you know of something coming up that would make a great addition to Monday Essentials, email lexington@patch.com.
1. Lexington Bicentennial Band Summer Concert: At 7:15 p.m. this Tuesday, Aug. 6, the Lexington Bicentennial Band, under the direction of Jeffrey P. Leonard and Alfred W. Dentino, will continue its summer outdoor concert series at Hastings Park. The concerts are free and open to the public, the bandstand area is handicapped accessible, and programs include marches, show tunes, Dixieland, and classical arrangements for band.
2. Mosquito Info Sessions: With West Nile detected in nearby communities and catch basin treatments ongoing here in Lexington, many folks have mosquitoes on the mind. The Lexington Board of Health has sponsored a series of seminars providing information about diseases carried by mosquitoes and how to prevent bites, including two that will be held this week:
- Tuesday, Aug. 6, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Greeley Village
- Thursday, Aug. 8, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Vynebrook Village
4. More Public Health News! Putting a call out for volunteers to help protect and prepare in the community in case of emergency, the Lexington Board of Health will hold an informational meeting on the Medical Reserve Corps at 7 p.m. this Wednesday, Aug. 7, at Cary Hall.
5. Corn Festival at Wilson Farm: Being a little corny -- or a lot corny -- isn't always a bad thing. And you can see an example of that this weekend at Wilson Farm, which will host a Corn Festival from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 10 and Sunday, Aug. 11. Drop by to sample corn-inspired recipes, let the kids play a few corny games and more.
