Pipe Work Thursday Could Bring Water Discoloration
Water discolored by iron a possibility for up to 48 hours starting Thursday.
A section of pipe the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority is reactivating in Arlington on Thursday could cause discolored water in Lexington, Arlington, Belmont and portions of Winchester, according to a press release from MWRA.
The discoloration could occur for up to 48 hours after the reactivation, and while discolored water is safe for drinking and cooking, it could stain light-colored clothes in the wash, especially if bleach is used.
Water discoloration results from a small amount of iron in the pipes. Residents are advised to check water clarity before washing light-colored or white clothes during the two-day period following the pipe work on Thursday, Aug. 26.
