Why Public Defender Mara Dolan for Governor's Council?

Because our "judiciary is under-representative of the defense bar," according to Senator Mike Barrett.

Mara Dolan, a public defender from Concord, is running for the Governor’s Council, which appoints our judges and parole boards. I urge you to vote for her on September 6.

Senator Mike Barrett said when endorsing Mara, "The state judiciary is loaded with former prosecutors and is under-representative of the defense bar. Mara has the values and experience needed to get us closer to balance, which will contribute to the crucial pursuit of justice."

I believe Barrett’s right on target. Today's court system is skewed in favor of the prosecution. Astonishingly, there have been ZERO full-time public defenders on the Council since 1963. Mara will bring her energy and long experience arguing before our courts to correct this situation and bring back fairness. She knows judges. She knows the territory. I believe she will do everything possible to appoint the qualified, unbiased judges we all deserve.
