Your Guide: Family Folk Dancing at Depot Square

Try a little something new this Sunday afternoon at Depot Square.

The Folk Arts Center of New England is inviting locals to put on their dancing shoes this weekend for a fun and free family event Sunday afternoon in Lexington.

Easy international folk dances will be on the agenda at 2 p.m. Aug. 4 at Depot Square, where Marcie Van Cleave will teach or call every dance and Audrey Knuth and Debbie Knight will provide live tunes.

This afternoon of family folk dancing is a team effort between the Folk Arts Center of New England, which will present the event, and the Lexington Council for the Arts, which is providing the financial support.

According to its website, the Folk Arts Center of New England was founded in 1975 to promote interest and participation in traditional dance, music and other arts. To that end, the FAC sponsors regular community folk dances, annual camps, a music club, workshops and events throughout the area.

The Lexington dance will be held weather-permitting. This weekend's forecast calls for mostly good weather, but if you're concerned about whether the dance is a go or not, you can check the Folk Fone 781-438-4389, or go to www.facone.org after 12 p.m. on Sunday.
