Malden Man Arrested For 'Patriots Day' Theft

A Malden man was arrested Tuesday as police investigate the theft of several thousand dollars of cable stolen from Mark Wahlberg movie set.

Malden, MA - Police arrested a Malden man Tuesday, following the theft of several thousand dollars of cable from the set of the "Patriot's Day" movie, filmed in Malden last week.

David Lyndell, 45, was charged with taking the license plate of another, larceny over $250, and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license. Police say Lyndell stole cable from the location of “Patriot’s Day,” the movie depicting the 2013 bombing of the Boston Marathon, starring Mark Wahlberg.

Crews filmed in Malden last week and police say several thousand dollars of cable thefts occurred as the set closed.

At approximately 2:15 p.m., police said a broadcast was sent to officers that an individual had just stolen cable and placed it in a vehicle on Mason Street. Police said officers were flagged down by a security guard who said she confronted the thief but the man had driven away.

Police said the vehicle was described as a powder blue, older model car with a blue cloth landau roof. A license plate number was also provided.

The thief was described as a white man, grey hair, about 5 feet 7 inches tall wearing a white shirt and with several tattoos, police said. Officers learned the license plate was allegedly stolen from Malden weeks earlier.

Police said Captain Glen Cronin was able to locate the vehicle in the driveway of a residence at the corner of Pearl and Whitman Streets. Police interviewed witnesses and arrested Lyndell.

He will be arraigned at Malden District court to face charges.
