Malden Recruiting Residents To Help Steer Its Future In The Right Direction
New members are needed to form a new important committee.
MALDEN, MA — The city is looking to recruit four residents to be a part of a group that could decide the future of Malden for years to come.
The Malden Comprehensive Plan, formerly titled the Malden Master Plan, was launched by Mayor Gary Christenson and the Office of Strategic Planning and Development in August that includes improving the city in categories such as land use, housing, economic development, natural and cultural resources, and transportation by the year 2050. Earlier this year, Malden received an $882,000 municipal block grant that will be used to fund many projects related to the comprehensive plan, including $175,000 for its planning. Malden put out a Request For Proposal to hire a comprehensive and land use planning consultant, with a proposal deadline of Wednesday, Jan. 7.
Expected duties for the steering committee members throughout the two-year development process include attending regular meetings with city officials and staff, editing draft plans, developing goals, preparing flyers, and other tasks as necessary, working collaboratively to decide the goals, actions, and strategies the City will take for the next 20 to 25 years, and promoting the Comprehensive Planning Process on social media and through word of mouth. Steering Committee meetings are slated to be held on weekdays not including Fridays at City Hall at approximately 6 p.m. Exact dates and times have yet to be determined.

The Office of Strategic Planning and Development is reportedly aiming to have the committee members be diverse in a variety of ways including homeowner status, occupation status, race, religion, age, sexual orientation, veteran status, gender identity, and income.
The application can be completed online and must be submitted to Administrative Officer Kathleen Manning-Hall via email by Tuesday, Jan. 20.
