Malden Resident Receives Lifetime Achievement Award By Jimmy Fund

MALDEN, MA – Malden resident Janis Moriarty has been awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award for her fundraising efforts in the Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk.

Moriarty, who lives in Malden and is a general and family dentist in Winchester, is a member of the Jimmy Fund Walk’s Advisory Board and has personally surpassed $250,000 cumulatively raised. She hopes to raise another $25,000 this year.

She is also co-captain of the Miles and Smiles Walk Team, a team made up of dental students and practitioners raising support for an ongoing clinical trial in oral cancer research at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

“It is incredible to witness all those who have dedicated their time, passion, and energy to supporting this event in its pursuit to continue critical research at Dana-Farber and ultimately to defy cancer,” said Zack Blackburn, director of the Jimmy Fund Walk, in a news release.

“Janis has demonstrated her commitment to conquering cancer and exemplifies the spirit of this event. People like Janis make this one of the most meaningful ways to honor the heroes we are walking for and inspire other walkers to join the cause,” Blackburn said.

Moriarty was among a select group of awardees recognized for their fundraising at the 34th Jimmy Fund Walk event, held in-person and virtually this past October.

2022 was a record-breaking year for the Jimmy Fund Walk, which has officially surpassed $8.85 million in fundraising.
