MALDEN, MA — Malden community members will gather on Thursday for an outdoor film festival at Coytemore Lea Park in the city.

Set to run from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., the event will feature outdoor film screenings, activities and discussions about the history of the Malden River. All ages are welcome.

Coytemore Lea Park contains a paved path marking the historic path of the now partially-underground river. The river once flowed through the center of Malden before it was diverted through a series of culverts and other mechanisms.

The river has suffered from pollution and other environmental degradation over the years, though new efforts have pushed to improve its health in part through a series of parks and access points, as reported in the Boston Globe back in May.

Films at this week’s planned Coytemore Lea Park screening include “A River Ran Through Here,” which is a six-minute production using the Malden River as a metaphor for Malden’s evolution over its history.
