WATCH: Malden Resident Honored by Jack Black and Jimmy Fallon

In recent months, the editor of Malden Patch has had some fun name dropping Malden-bred rock ‘n roller Gary Cherone in various articles.

Maybe a little bit too much fun.

We’ve actually gotten some angry emails from fans of the Extreme singer, who think we’re being sarcastic when we say he was the greatest frontman Van Halen ever had.

This is perplexing to us. Of course Gary Cherone was the best Van Halen singer ever. David Lee Roth and Sammy Hagar are both terrible.

Regardless of anyone’s opinion, not many musicians who made their mark in the late ‘80s/early ‘90s can say celebrity comedians are covering their songs on late night TV in 2015.

Behold: On Tuesday night, Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon and former “Mr. Show” cast member Jack Black performed a spot-on remake of Extreme’s “More Than Words.”

Unlike the bulk of ‘90s power ballads, “More Than Words” lives on.
