Mansfield Police Log: Shoplifters, Stolen Car and a Stowaway

The following is from the Mansfield Police Log from July 3 to July 5.

July 3

11:58 a.m. Caller reported that his car was struck early in the morning on Fulton Plaza.

1:38 p.m. Caller reported a larceny on Ware Street.

3:04 p.m. L.L. Bean representatives called to report a stray cat living in one of their tractor-trailers. Animal control officer Jeff Collins safely removed the animal.

July 4

12:43 a.m.  Michael Tobichuk, 21, of 170 Brown Ave. was given a summons arrest for leaving the scene of property damage (hit and run). The owner of the vehicle he struck reported that her vehicle was sideswiped and Tobichuk’s vehicle took off. Her husband “gave chase” and followed him to Foxborough. Foxborough police stopped Tobichuk and brought him back to Mansfield for processing.

1:18 a.m. Steven McAvoy, 25, of 14 Bonney Ln. was arrested for operation of a motor vehicle while intoxicated, reckless operation of a motor vehicle and possession of an open container of alcohol. Police found McAvoy’s vehicle off the side of the road on Stearns Avenue.

12:39 p.m. Annete Smith, 48,  and Isabelle Smith, 20, both of 740 North Main St. and Rene Carter, 22, of 32 Robert St. in Attleboro were arrested for shoplifting by concealing merchandise and trespassing.  A representative of Kohl’s called Mansfield Police when they suspected that the three were stealing merchandise in the changing room.

3:06 p.m. Caller reported from Kohl’s that a patron had shoplifted from the store. The vehicle was identified by plates and was registered to a resident of Franklin. Franklin Police were notified.

3:51 p.m. Caller reported a larceny of a hammock from his residence on Rumford Avenue.

July 5

7:24 a.m. Caller from Elm Street Garage reported that someone had broken into the night drop box and took several sets of keys.

12:19 p.m. Caller from Elm Street Garage reported that someone had stolen a motor vehicle from the parking lot during the night after stealing keyes from the drop box.
