Mansfield Selectmen Roundup: Comcast License Approved, New Titles and Municipal Advocate Magazine

The Mansfield Board of Selectmen voted 4-1 with Olivier Kozlowski against to approve the Comcast Center entertainment license.  The big issue discussed during the proceedings was the issue of liability and indemnity concerning auxiliary and out-of-town police forces.  While there has been only one issue in past years concerning liability when a reserve officer was injured on a detail at the venue in 2004.

Town Manager William Ross said that the Cate Springs Well is now up and running. He also added that crack sealing projects on the roads are beginning in the coming weeks.

Selectmen voted on new positions on Wednesday.  Olivier Kozlowski was voted in as chair 4-1 with George Dentino against. Dentino was in turn voted 5-0 as vice chair, and Kevin Moran was voted in 4-1 with Dentino against for the clerk position on the Board of Selectmen. Dentino was voted in 5-0 as the chair of the Light Commission, with Moran voted in as vice chair 5-0 as well. Doug Annino was voted in as the clerk for the Light Department 5-0.

Ross said that the Municipal Advocate Magazine referenced Mansfield’s Electric Department heavily in a recent article concerning reaction and repair time to Tropical Storm Irene. He added that the legislation discussed earlier that would make it easier for municipalities to create their own light departments (while making it more difficult for current municipalities to maintain them) has not as yet been moving forward in the legislature.

New chair Kozlowski suggested that the school and town finances be moved onto one computer database for easier comparison. Ross said this was very doable.

Ross said that the Gazebo for the North Common should be, weather permitting, ready to go on Monday.

Ross also said that he and the schools are moving ahead with the strategic plan implementation timeline and is currently asking for items of discussion for when the joint meetings take place. He also said that Shaun Burke has suggested that the Board of Selectmen and School Committee renew the plan once a month to sure the plan is moving forward on relevant issues.

Ross also said that the firefighters contract was ratified on Tuesday.
