Xfinity Center first opened its doors in 1986 under the name The Great Woods Center for the Performing Arts. The venue quickly became a popular outdoor amphitheater for performers, featuring everyone from Elton John and James Taylor to the Dave Matthews Band, Aerosmith and the annual Jimmy Buffett performance. The Xfinity Center offers something for a variety of musical tastes including, Classic Rock, Pop, Country Music, Metal and Hip Hop. In addition to bringing top musical acts to Mansfield, Xfinity brings an average of 400,000 visitors through its turnstiles each year. Concert attendees frequently stay overnight in local hotels, as well as shop or enjoy a meal at area restaurants before a show. These visitors help the Xfinity Center generate an overall economic impact of $16.3million and $3.3million in labor income in southeastern Massachusetts.
“The Xfinity Center continues to be one of the top ranked Live Nation venues across the country in terms of how many shows and visitors we see each year. In 2016, we employed 336 people from the Tri-Town area, and a total of 500 employees living within 10 miles of the venue. Look for improvements around the venue this year both in our food & beverage offerings as well as enhancements that are designed to improve the overall guest experience,” stated Jeff Mann, General Manager of Xfinity Center.

“The Xfinity Center has a direct and powerful economic benefit to the Tri-Town area,” said Danielle Fish, Vice President of the Chamber’s Economic Development. “They provide valuable jobs to high school and college students, teachers, right through to retired seniors. As a concert venue, their guests are business patrons for local restaurants, hotels, and other attractions. Xfinity Center has always been a destination for people around New England for many years and they help to showcase all the other outstanding retail and attractions this area has to offer.”
Chamber President Steve Davis added, “As a long-time Mansfield resident I have seen firsthand how the Xfinity Center epitomizes what it means to be a great corporate citizen. My wife and I have had four children attend Mansfield schools and every year our kids and their classmates were given the privilege of performing their school concerts from the very stage where the best performers in the world often play. All the local communities have benefited from Xfinity’s generosity. The high schools use the center to hold their graduation ceremonies each year. Xfinity hosts numerous non-profit groups including the Chamber’s “Taste of Tri-Town” fundraiser for the local food pantries. Mansfield, Norton and Foxborough are fortunate to have the Xfinity Center in our backyards.”
“Thank you to the Tri-Town Chamber and local business leaders for recognizing the Xfinity Center with the Excellence in Business award. We are thrilled to be a part of a vibrant business community and look forward to another successful concert season in 2017,” said Mann.
The Chamber‘s Economic Development Committee will recognize other members and their businesses throughout the year. Past recipients of this award have Normandy Farms Campground, Mass Premier Courts, and Personal Best Karate.
