5 Things To Do This Weekend

Here are Patch's picks for what to do in town this weekend.

Summer is the perfect time to plan a "staycation" and explore what the town has to offer without even gasing up the car or packing snacks. Here are MarbleheadPatch's  recommendations for 5 things to do this weekend, close to home.

Throwdown - What's wrong with a little friendly competition? At Saturday's Farmers' Market, a "Seafood Throwdown" will be held. Sponsored by Cape Ann Fresh Catch Community Supported Fishery, two local chefs will compete for the title. The chefs, Barry Edelman from Five Corner's Kitchen and Paul Riccardi (executive chef) and Jake Soucy (sous chef) from Ataraxis Tavern, will each cook a dish featuring a mystery local seafood and ingredients from the Farmers' Market. The chefs won't know the ingredients until minutes before. The event will be judged by Marblehead's Rosalie Harrington, Leigh Vincola, director of marketing at Edible Boston Magazine, as well as judged and emceed by Harrington's husband and morning radio host on WRKO Todd Feinburg.

Support - The 9-year-old all-stars are having a great season so why not stay local and support the team? They play Saturday at 9 a.m. at Sawyer Field in Lynn, against Wakefield.

Learn - Duck into the Lee Mansion Saturday for  guided tours from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The mansion was the original home of merchant  Jeremiah Lee and has many original details.

Observe - The lighthouse at Chandler Hovey State Park has recently been part of a mystery as to who has a key to the lighthouse door and is leaving it open. While going inside the antiquated light house is forbidden, it's a great place to visit and take pictures of from the outside.

Refresh - Ice cream is the seasonal favorite, but try a local favorite to refresh yourself during this weekend's hot weather. Lime Rickey's on Devereux Beach has a wide variety of flavors to try such as; root beer and coconut lime rickeys.
