Another Local Teen Given Jail Time In Downtown Beating

Michael A. Ehlert is the latest teen to be sentenced in the downtown beating of a 16-year-old last fall.

One of the Marblehead teens charged with attacking another 16-year-old  as he reportedly walked to a downtown convenience store last October, pleaded guilty and was sentenced to jail on July 2.

According to Steve O'Connell, spokesman for Essex District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett, Judge Timothy Q. Feeley ordered Michael Ehlert, 18, of 12 Reed St., to serve 2  1/2 years in jail for one count of larceny from a person and three years of probation on unarmed robbery and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

He was also ordered to stay away and not have contact with the victim or the victim's family, to attend an anger management program, undergo a mental health evaluation and substance abuse evaluation, receive treatment that is deemed necessary, abstain from alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substances and is subject to breath and drug tests.

Ehlert's co-defendant, Michael D. Leoni, 18, of 14 Devereux Terrace, pleaded guilty June 22 and was given a split sentence of 30 months in jail by Feeley, with 18 months suspended, and placed on three years probation.

Ehlert's older brother, Zachary, 22, is charged with two counts of witness intimidation arising from reported phone calls allegedly made to the victim's home. He will be in court on July 22.
