How Did Marblehead Teachers Perform on the Latest State Evaluation?

More than 98 percent of Marblehead’s evaluated educators received at least a score of proficient on the 2013-14 Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Educator Evaluation.

The results of the study show that none of the 306 educators evaluated in Marblehead were scored as Exemplary, 98.4 percent received a Proficient score and 1.6 percent scored in the Needs Improvement category. No one received an Unsatisfactory score.

Marblehead Community Charter School was not required to report the data.

Statewide, 372 districts were evaluated with 86.5 percent of educators receiving a Proficient score, meaning “the educator’s performance fully and consistently meets the requirements of a standard or overall,” according to the survey definitions.

According to a press release from the DESE, this is the second year the ratings have been produced under a new state framework.

“The state’s new evaluation framework is designed to ensure teachers and administrators receive more meaningful feedback than ever before to help them better serve students,” the press release reads.

Once the program is fully implemented, every public school district in the state will be required to evaluate every educator.

For the 2013-14 school year, 306, or 96 percent, of Marblehead’s 318 educators were evaluated. The majority of those evaluations, 247 of them, were of teachers. Administrators and principals were evaluated but the data was not released due to confidentiality reasons.
