Local Firefighters Respond to Peabody Blaze
One engine sent from town to battle Peabody mulch fire.
Marblehead Fire sent one engine to Peabody yesterday to help battle a large brush fire near Interstate 95.
Peabody firefighters arrived at the blaze to find flames coming from a 60-foot pile of mulch.
The fire quickly spread to equipment in the area. Smoke billowing from the scene shut down the ramp to I-95 North.

As of last night at 9 p.m., the mulch was still burning. The strong smell of smoke could be detected in Salem.
The fire was considered contained late last night, but the Peabody fire chief said his crews would likely be monitoring the scene for days.
