Man Rescued After Slipping Off Boat in Marblehead Harbor: Police

Police and firefighters responded to a report of a person yelling for help from the water on Monday.

MARBLEHEAD, MA – Multiple people called 911 on Monday evening when they heard someone yelling for help somewhere on the Marblehead Harbor.

Police and firefighters responded to different points around the harbor in the area of Glover's Landing around 6:30 p.m., according to a post on the Marblehead Police Facebook page. Firefighters got into a rescue boat.

From shore, officers saw a small boat recover the man from the middle of the harbor between Commercial Street and the Causeway. The victim told police he had slipped off his boat, and had been in the water for roughly 45 minutes. He declined medical treatment.

"With the boating season only officially underway by about a week, this is an important reminder about boating safety and the need for the 'buddy system' until the harbor becomes warmer and busier," said Marblehead Police on their page.
