MARBLEHEAD, MA — The Marblehead Abbot Public Library grand reopening ceremony set for next week has been postponed because of a potential accessibility compliance issue.

Library officials said the issue pertains to the sloped walkway from the corner of Pleasant Street and Maverick Street leading to the library entrance.

"The Board of Trustees thanks the Town of Marblehead and the Marblehead Disabilities Commission for their diligence in assuring that we are providing a safe and accessible building for the community to enjoy for years to come," the Board said in a statement on Friday. "The event will be rescheduled once all concerns are addressed. We thank you for your patience and look forward to welcoming everyone back to the Abbot Public Library very soon."

The library had been set to reopen after a $7 million renovation that has closed the historic library for the past 18 months. The temporary location at the Eveleth School closed last month to facilitate the relocation of inventory and services to the new location.
