Marblehead Abbot Public Library Grand Reopening Wednesday
The renovated historic library's reopening was delayed from last month because of a potential accessibility compliance issue.

MARBLEHEAD, MA — The Abbot Public Library of Marblehead has a new grand reopening date after an accessibility compliance issue forced the postponement of last month's celebration.
The new grand reopening date is now set for Wednesday (NOTE: This is a correction from an earlier publication) after officials said the building received a certificate of occupancy that allows access to the building and the use of the front walkway amid the design and construction of a fully accessible ramp.
Officials said the ramp is expected to be completed "during the next few months" and that in the meantime anyone with mobility concerns can use the lower entrance, which provides ADA-compliant access.

The Marblehead Public Library had been at its temporary Eveleth School location during a two-year renovation after nearly 70 percent of Marblehead voters in 2021 voted in favor of the $9 million project to update the 144-year-old library following a six-year campaign to build support and funding for the renovation.
