Marblehead Bernese Mountain Dog Saved From Freezing Greystone Waters
"Miss Cleo" was rescued from about 40-degree waters about 200 feet offshore.
MARBLEHEAD, MA — A wayward Marblehead Bernese Mountain Dog named Miss Cleo was home safe and warming up Tuesday afternoon after quick action from the Harbormaster saved the dog from about 200 feet of freezing water.
At about 11:15 a.m., the dog got out of her yard and made her way to Greystone Beach. According to the Harbormaster's office, the dog was then spooked and jumped into the water.
Marblehead Animal Control Officer Betsy Tufts called Harbormaster Mark Souza and he responded along with Assistant Harbormaster Craig Smith and assistant Jarrett Russo. They found the dog struggling against strong currents and windy conditions in chilly water with no way back to shore.

"They were able to get her on board and return her to her grateful owners," the Harbormaster Office said. "She is no worse for wear and is cuddled up at home.
"As an owner of four dogs, it was personal for (Souza)."
