Marblehead Closes Basketball Courts To Slow Coronavirus Spread
DPW vehicles will be parked on the courts as Marblehead tries to limit the spread of the new coronavirus.
MARBLEHEAD, MA — Five players per team and a few waiting their turn on the sidelines means most pickup basketball games violate the state order limiting gatherings of more than 10 people. As a result, Marblehead said it will be closing all town-owned basketball courts.
Police marked the courts with yellow caution tape over the weekend. The Department of Public Works parked vehicles on the courts to further discourage people from playing basketball.
" As always we ask while this pandemic is still active, please continue to practice social distancing and proper hand washing with soap and water," marblehead police said in a note announcing the closings. "Thank you for your continued cooperation, be safe and be healthy."
