Marblehead Coronavirus: Schools Expand Lunch Program
Marblehead Public Schools said it will offer meal pickups to all students, regardless of their lunch benefit status
MARBLEHEAD, MA — Marblehead Public Schools said Tuesday it will expand its school lunch program to offer free, grab-and-go meals to all students during the three-week, state-ordered closure of all Massachusetts schools.
Meals are available to students, regardless of their lunch benefit status. The expanded service begins Wednesday. Students can pick up meals, including a lunch and breakfast for the following morning, between 10 a.m. and noon on weekdays at the Village School at 93 Village Street.

On Sunday, Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker ordered all schools closed for at least three weeks. The Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education is working with school districts to develop distance learning programs and to make sure vital services offered by schools would still be available during the three-week closure.
Details of those plans are expected in the coming days, but already the state had received a waiver to federal rules that will allow low-income school districts to continue offering food service.
