Marblehead Football Team Rolls Into State Semifinals

The Magicians will play for a spot in the state championship game Saturday in Shrewsbury. Boys cross team also makes States.

MARBLEHEAD, MA — The Marblehead High football team will play for a spot in the state championship game after the undefeated Magicians took care of Masconomet in Friday's quarterfinal clash.

The top-seeded Magicians beat Masconomet 21-7 to reach the Divison 3 state semifinals. They will next play fourth-seeded Westfield at Shrewsbury High School Saturday at 3 p.m.

The Marblehead boys cross country team also had a stellar run at the Division 1C Championships held in Wrentham on Saturday, while senior Juliet Poss reached States as an individual qualifier.

While the Marblehead boys did not have a top 10 finisher in the race they earned the runner-up trophy by packing five runners in the top 21.

Junior Harrison Kee was the team's top runner in 11th in 16 minutes, 37.2 seconds. Senior Will Lamb was 15th in 16:49.6, junior Ryan Thompson was 17th in 16:56.7, freshman Will Carrutti was 18th in 16:57.2 and sophomore Isaac Gross was 21st in 16:59.44.

Junior David DiCostanzo was 37th in 17:24.2 and senior Owen Murphy was 78th in 18:26.97.

Poss was 33rd in the girls 1C race in 20:47.9.
