Marblehead Housing Authority Advances Expanded Broughton Road Proposal

The Authority voted to proceed with Winn Company's proposal for a three-story, 97-unit complex at the site.

MARBLEHEAD, MA — The Marblehead Housing Authority voted to advance a proposal from Winn Development to renovate the property on Broughton Road into a three-story affordable housing complex with 35 additional units.

The Authority said in a statement to Patch that Winn was the one qualified proposal to the Authority after it put out an RFP for the project in December. The Board unanimously approved the request to proceed with the company to refine the proposal and, if approved, for Winn Company to be the developer and partner in the project.

"The Board is excited to begin this process to improve and expand our affordable housing opportunities at Broughton Road, to help the town of Marblehead address our unmet housing needs and to move towards meeting the state target for Affordable Housing stock with expanded, updated and newly constructed homes for families and seniors," Board Chair Jennifer Schaeffner said.

The Authority said the proposal preserves the existing 62 units with 35 new units added for low-to-medium-income residents. The proposal is for a three-story building on the site.

"The proposal submitted by Winn is solid," MHA Executive Director Cathy Hoog said. "It clearly represents that Winn is well-qualified and capable of working with the Housing Authority on a redevelopment project.

"The initial design presented is conceptual. If we move forward with Winn, the feedback from the residents, the abutters and the community will drive a final design concept that makes the most sense for this community."
