Marblehead Hydrant Flushing, Street Sweeping To Take Place This Week
Overnight flushing began on Monday morning and will continue through Friday while street sweeping begin on Wednesday.
MARBLEHEAD, MA — Annual hydrant flushing in Marblehead is set for this week with residents being told to expect the possibility of discolored water in a given morning.
Flushing began early Monday morning at the Swampscott and Salem borders and will work toward downtown each successive night. Flushing takes place between midnight and 7 a.m.
It is expected to conclude on Friday.

Residents may notice water flowing from some hydrants during the day as part of the normal flushing procedures.
Those who experience discolored water early in the morning are urged to run cold water only in the kitchen sink until the color clears — which could take about 20 minutes. Residents should refrain from using hot water or doing laundry until the discoloration clears.

The town overnight parking ban will be in effect for street sweeping from Wednesday through Friday overnight between 12:01 a.m. and 7 a.m. The overnight parking ban will allow the Department of Public Works to sweep the areas of downtown, Old Town and the shipyard districts.
