Marblehead Jogger Dog Bite Was 'Not A Coyote': Animal Control

Marblehead police said the dog who bit a woman jogging near the Neck was a domestic dog that got off its leash.

MARBLEHEAD, MA — A dog attack in the Neck section of Marblehead first believed to have involved a coyote earlier this week was actually from a domestic dog that was off leash in the area, according to Marblehead Animal Control.

A woman was bitten three times while jogging along Brown Street on Monday and police initially believed it came from a coyote after showing the women photos of active coyotes in the area. Police had sought information on coyote whereabouts in the area so it could be determined whether the attacking canine might have rabies.

But on Wednesday, police said the biting animal was, in fact, not a wild canine and belonged to a nearby resident.

Police added that coyotes remain active in the town — as well as across the North Shore — and that "our co-existence with them depends on following best practices."
