Marblehead Library To Close For 6 Weeks Ahead Of Abbot Relocation

With the renovation of Abbot Public Library complete, the relocation from the Eveleth School back to Pleasant Street begins on April 27.

MARBLEHEAD, MA — With the two-year renovation of the 144-year-old Abbot Public Library complete, the temporary location at the Eveleth School will close for good next week for the six-week relocation back to the Pleasant Street location.

The Eveleth location will close on April 27 at 5 p.m. with the library closed from then until mid-June to allow staff time to relocate materials and furnishings. The grand re-opening date for the renovated Abbot Library will be announced in May.

While there will be no physical library during the move, virtual services such as databases, Libby and Hoopla will be available with a library card.

Phone service to library staff will not be available during the move but staff can be reached at marcirc@noblenet.org.

Those who have outstanding library materials with the barcode Abbot Public Library are asked to hold on to them until the library reopens back on Pleasant Street. Those who have materials from other libraries borrowed through Marblehead are asked to return them to the library exchange locations.

The book drop and book request services will not be available during the move. Books will be available through the libraries in the Noble exchange network in Swampscott, Salem and Lynn.

Museum passes will be available online during the closure for the Boston Children's Museum, Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, Museum of Fine Arts, Museum of Science, New England Aquarium and Peabody Essex Museum.

Regularly scheduled programs will continue virtually on Zoom in May and early June.

Meeting spaces will be available for reservation once the renovated Abbot location opens in June.
