MARBLEHEAD, MA — A very long second half of the school year got a day longer in Marblehead this week with the cancellation of school Thursday because of the snow forecast.

"Given the timing of the storm and out of an abundance of caution for the safety of our students, staff, parents and community partners, school will be canceled (Thursday)," Marblehead school officials said. "This closure includes all after-school activities and athletics as well as the School Committee meeting that was scheduled at 6 p.m."
