Marblehead, Swampscott Awarded $185K In MA Earmark Funding

This funding is not contingent on being compliant with the state's MBTA Community Act multi-family zoning law.

MARBLEHEAD, MA — Marblehead and Swampscott projects were awarded a total of $185,000 in state earmark funding as part of the $61 billion state budget passed in July for Fiscal Year 2026.

Recipients of this funding are now able to connect with the appropriate state agency to facilitate accessing this funding. Legislative earmarks are not subject to 3A compliance.

The earmarks include $50,000 for Marblehead cemetery infrastructure, $35,000 for Marblehead police equipment upgrades, $35,000 for the Swampscott High track repair, $25,000 for Swampscott Council on Aging facility upgrades and $50,000 to support programming for elementary and middle school-aged girls with Girls on the Run of Greater Boston.

“Delivering a balanced and robust budget in spite of federal turmoil highlights our commitment to protecting the core values of our Commonwealth," said State Senator Brendan Crighton (D-Lynn). "We are proud of this final budget that provides critical funding for transportation, housing, education, and many other services that impact our constituents' daily lives."

"At a time of uncertainty on the federal level, Massachusetts continues to lead with stability, compassion, and a commitment to our communities," said State Representative Jenny Armini (D-Marblehead). "These local investments reflect our shared belief that government should be a force for good, meeting people where they are and helping our towns thrive."
