Marblehead Unemployment Rises, Remains Lowest in the Region
The Marblehead unemployment rate is up to 4.3 percent, but remains one of just a few communities in the area under 5 percent.

The unemployment rate in Marblehead was up slightly in July, according to figures released Tuesday by the Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development. The town remains below the statewide average.
The unemployment rate went from 4.1 percent from 4.3 percent, with 488 people reporting they were out of work out of a workforce of 11,319 in July, according to the state government data. In June, 463 Marblehead residents were out of work, the state said.
The statewide unemployment rate was 6.1 percent in July.

The town’s unemployment rate is almost a full percentage point lower than it was at this time last year, when it was 5.2 percent.
Of the communities immediately nearby, Marblehead has the lowest unemployment rate. Hamilton and Swampscott were the only two other communities on the North Shore with unemployment rates under 5 percent.
