The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch in Essex County and other portions of the state until 8 p.m. tonight.
The watch has been issued for Essex, Norfolk, Suffolk and Middlesex counties in the north and east, and Plymouth and Bristol counties south of Boston. A hazardous weather outlook also covers portions of Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut and New Hampshire, according to the service.
