A problem with the town's sub-station caused a wide-spread power outage throughout town Wednesday afternoon.
Power went out to most residents before 2 p.m. Wednesday but was back on within 50 minutes according to Marblehead Electric General Manager Robert Jolly.
"It was not heat related," Jolly said noting the department was still working on diagnosing what went wrong. "It was more than likely, equipment failure."

Jolly said the department has contingencies plans in place for when power goes out to limit the amount of time people are in the dark - or in Wednesday's case - without their air conditioners.
