Police Log

The following items were recorded in the police log from Friday, June 4 to Thursday, June 11.

  • Sean Joseph Murphy, 48, 56 Gallows Hill Road, Salem, was arrested Saturday at 4:45 p.m. and charged with being a fugitive from justice on a court warrant out of Florida. Officer Andrew Clark made the arrest on Pond Street.
  • A woman called police Saturday to tell them on June 1, she was jogging along Devereux Beach. A male jogging in the opposite direction got up to her and grabbed her wrist and said, "Michelle." The caller said she was not Michelle and the man said "sorry, wrong person" and jogged off. The caller said she continued on her way, but on June 3, she noticed her bracelet was gone from her wrist. She contacted her insurance company, who asked for a report to be filed and faxed to them.  She said the bracelet she lost has a value of $3,ooo and is "art deco." She said  she wears several bracelets on her arm, and didn't notice it missing until the 3rd. She did not feel it come off during her brief encounter with the jogger, but feels he must have taken it.
  • At 5 p.m., Saturday, police received a call from a woman reporting she had received a private call and the person on the line spoke in broken English and said they were from the FBI. She said she would not accept the call and hung up. She thought it was strange and she wanted to know if police had similar calls.
  • At 9:07 a.m. Sunday, a Mohwak Road resident reported a tree had been hit by lightning overnight and the bark had been stripped off it. The caller wanted police to check to make sure the tree wouldn't fall down. Police notified the Tree Department.
  • At 10:51 a.m. Saturday police receive a report of a boat in distress. A Crowninshield Road resident told police there was a white hulled 18-foot sailboat off his property that appears to be in distress. The caller said two kayakers were attempting to assist. The sails were down at the time. Police found the boat had run aground on the rocks. A whaler worked to pull them off the rocks and the boat was freed. The boat did sustain some damage and needed to be salvaged. The Harbormaster responded to the scene.
  • An Allerton Place resident called close to 9 p.m. Sunday to report her teak umbrella blew away or was taken from their property. Resident would like police to call if they locate the umbrella. She will check the neighbors to see if it blew on there properties 
  • At 11:20 a.m. Tuesday, a caller told police she had received six phone calls telling her she has won an International payout of $1.5 million and that she needed to send them $350 so she could get the rest. The woman said she called the Attorney General and the District Attorney reporting the scam and was told to report it to her local police. 
  • Kathleen M. Mattarese, 52, of 28 Harris St., Marblehead, was arrested Saturday at 10:03 p.m. and charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol after a resident complained Mattarese was  talking loudly on a cell phone on Treat Road by Devereux Street. Lt. Freedman made the arrest.
  • Daniel J. Nicolas, 19, of 6 Park Lane, Marblehead, was arrested Sunday 3:48 a.m. and charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol, unlawful possession of alcohol as a minor and speeding following a motor vehicle stop on Colgate Road. Officer Jason Conrad made the arrest.
