Police Log: Towed Cars and Brush Fire Marks Fourth of July
The following is an excerpt of the Marblehead Police log from Sunday, July 4, through Tuesday, July 6, at 7 a.m.
- At 9:33 a.m. Sunday, a caller told police someone driving on the causeway threw fireworks at him and his children. Police located the car shortly thereafter. The driver said he was going along and he thought the pedestrian lit off the fireworks beside his vehicle. Officer checked and there was no evidence of fireworks in the vehicle.
- At 2:08 p.m. Sunday, a man called to report his boat was stolen. Boat is a 2001 Aquasport, fiberglass hull pleasure craft. Length is 256, blue and white with 150hp Evinrude outboard motor. The man reported he believes his "wayward stepson" could have stolen it. Harbormaster located the boat, took the stepson off the boat and returned the keys to the owner. The owner will be pressing charges against his stepson.
- A Brooks Road woman told police at 5:04 p.m. Sunday her neighbor called her two derogatory names and she would like an officer to talk to her. Police talked to the woman and she was just being loud on her own property.
- At 5:59 p.m. Sunday, a kayak capsized 3/4 mile off the coast of Devereaux Beach. The call came in from a witness on Ocean Avenue. The caller said that the male is unable to get back up. Friends are swimming out to get him, but won't be able to get to him. The caller then reported three people were in the water by Goldthwait. The group was 1/2 mile out and they were trying to swim in. The harbormaster and the Fire Department responded. Firefighters were able to take a boat out to group and bring them back in. There were no injuries.
- Police towed and tagged numerous cars Sunday evening as people gathered to watch the fireworks.
- At 8:06 p.m. Sunday, a juvenile was placed in protective custody on Front Street.
- At 8:53 p.m. Sunday, police and fire responded to a brush fire at 11 Front St. Fireworks were shot from a dock and were going into the crowd. A person was burned and a doctor checked him out. They didn't need medical attention.
- At 10:17 p.m. Sunday, a jaguar logo was taken off a car at Atlantic and Barnard streets.
- At 12:10 a.m. Monday, police were called to Atlantic Avenue for a report of a loud group. Jeffrey B. Edwards, 22, 29 Devereaux St., Marblehead, was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.
- At 1:58 p.m. Monday, Marblehead and Salem police responded to a motor vehicle accident on Leggs Hill Road. One person was transported to North Shore Children's Hospital.
- At 9:45 p.m. Monday, a caller reported a man urinating on Sewall Street. Police took the man home.
