Here is what happened in town this week.

Sunday brought beautiful weather after the disappointing Earl blew by and into the Canadian Maritimes.

Locals celebrated Labor Day with a walking tour of the town led by Judy Anderson. 

On Tuesday, it was back to school for Marblehead public schools. Sixth graders were also back to the Village School after completed renovations.

A week from the state primary elections, Congressional candidate Bill Hudak spoke about his bad reputation but drive to turn things around and give Congressman John Tierney D-Salem a challenge come November.

Wednesday at sundown marked the start of the Jewish High Holy Days. Local Jews took part in services to mark the New Year Thursday.

In government news, an emergency reverse 911 dialing system was approved and fully funded this week. Soon, residents will get a call on their land line or cell phone testing the numbers out.

At Wednesday night's Board of Selectmen's meeting, members voted against holding a special town meeting for the purpose of saving Bubier Road resident Wayne Johnson's home from demolition. 

Thursday brought news Marblehead schools are tough on head safety ahead of new state laws which mandate certain standards to prevent head injuries in sports. 

Saturday marked the 9th anniversary of the September 11, terrorist attacks in New York. Police and Fire officials held a memorial service in Memorial Park to remember the victims and their families.
