Ski Team Wins League

Marblehead's season will go down in history.

The following was submitted by Michelle Phillips of MHS Ski Team

Thursday night, Mass Bay Ski League East held it's last two races at Skiward in Shrewsbury and the Marblehead girls literally dominated the night and put the icing on the cake for the regular season. Captains Hayley Braun and Maika Phillips not only finished first and second in both races, but they had the two best overall times on the hill, both races, for the night... beating out the boys! They also solidified their league standings for the season, finishing first and second overall.

Their leadership proved itself this year with best record that Marblehead has ever seen since it's start 5 years ago. The girls team won both races last night as well as taking the leagues overall title. They are also sending a record 7 skiers to the States and one alternate. The boys team has also had a personal best this year and finished 2nd in the Large School Division and 3rd overall in the league.

Marblehead Ski Team is one of two teams in the schools history to win States and the only team to win it twice... back-to-back.

Coach Matt Dawson stated "Great work all season and the carry over from Wednesday night's training paid off for the team as the girls came through with some excellent clutch performances to end the regular season. It was great to see the senior girls (Hayley, Maika and Amy Federman) have solid results for their last regular season race. Great efforts from the underclass girls as well (Maggie, Sydney, Haley, Lauren and Alli) helped the team to make two team wins last night. A great note to go into the States with a night like last night"

"As for the boys, strong skiing in a tricky course from the top three (Kyle, Charlie and Jason) helped set up a fine end to the regular season. Great supporting results from Ryan Aikman with his best places of the season. And a solid effort from Max Cushman to help end the boys season on a positive note."
