Soak In The Sun

The rain has let up and the sun is forecast to stay for the weekend. Celebrate by getting outdoors. Whether it's taking in a run along the beach or watching a parade and competition that will take you back to the 19th century, enjoy the last few weeks of warm weather before autumn sets in.

Watch - The Student Theatre Ensemble of Salem State will be at Marblehead Little Theatre this weekend presenting Urinetown the Musical directed by Andy Scannell and assistant directed by Christina Puopolo with choreography by Amy Mastrangelo. Urinetown the Musical will run from Aug. 26 to 29. Thursday through Saturday shows are at 7:30 p.m. and there will be a Sunday matinee at 2 p.m. Tickets are $10 for students or seniors and $15 for general admission.  Tickets may be pre ordered by calling 978-542-7000.

Muster - Two local veteran firemen's associations and others from around New England will muster this Saturday for a parade and competition of pumping prowess with their 19th century hand-pumped fire engines. The muster, part of a series of competitions sponsored by the New England States Veteran Firemen's League, will begin with a parade down Pleasant Street starting from the main firehouse at 10 a.m., followed by the hand-pumping competition at noon at the playground across from the Charter School on Lime Street.

Listen - "The Mugfords" will be playing Sweeney's Retreat on Saturday at 8 p.m. The band will play 1960's rock n' roll covers. 

Eat - This weekend will draw state Farmers' Market Week to a close. Celebrate by taking in the scenes, smells and tastes at the Marblehead Farmers' Market.

Run - The Wicked Half Marathon, stretching from Salem into Marblehead and back to Salem, is less than a month away. Hit the pavement with this running route from Patch reporter Nate Snow. A portion of his route is actually part of the half marathon route.
