Week In Review: July 31 Through August 7

Here's a look at what happened in town this week.

The week started off with a bang as Marblehead Fire responded to manhole explosions in Salem on Saturday night. Sunday was spent picking up the pieces.

On Monday, came a reassuring report that local beaches are not as dirty as once thought. That was good news as the week continued to be a big one for beach go-ers.

Congressman John Tierney, D-Salem, and other Democrats such as Attorney General Martha Coakley were in town Monday evening for a picnic sponsored by the Democratic Town Committee.

Also on Monday, school officials named a new athletic director. New AD Mark Tarmey hopes to continue Marblehead's strong program. 

 With waiting lists up to seven years for a transplant, she hoped her homemade signs posted on Pleasant Street would help.

The week was rounded out by a feud over condominium decks on Lafayette Street. The issue will be taken up by the Zoning Board in October.
