Week In Review: June 13 to June 20

Here's a look at what happened in town this week.

This week was a busy one in Marblehead as the special election sent a message loud and clear -- residents do not want increased taxes.

Locally, stakeholders in each override reacted. Jeff Dinsmore spoke of his frustration that the override to buy his home would have, in the end, saved the town money. Now, the town will pay $3 million to clean his land.

Board of Selectmen Chair Jim Nye reacted to the vote against realigning Pleasant Street. Rather than try for another override, Nye said everyone needs to take responsibility and slow down on the road.

Glover School Building Committee is down, but looking ahead. They will push for another special election in the fall where they are confident the vote will pass. This week's special election vote to fund an override to rebuild the school lost by less than 100 votes.

Also, in school news this week, newly hired business manager Brian Salzer, had his contract thrown out amid controversy the superintendent had no right to hire him without School Committee approval.

His contract will be renegotiated tomorrow or Tuesday and the School Committee will discuss it on Wednesday morning in an executive session.

While it was a busy week in Marblehead, high temperatures sent people beach bound this weekend. It's the last weekend to take advantage of free beach parking.

Remember, it is Father's Day and last-minute gifts can be found downtown.
